Raphaël will investigate the properties of topological Floquet systems in the presence of interactions and disorder.

February 15, 2021

The Fermi 2 team can already probe the bulk properties of weakly-interacting ultracold potassium atoms in a periodically-modulated honeycomb optical lattice, and they will develop tools to characterize the behaviour of atoms at the edge of such a system. Together with the team, Raphaël will upgrade the experiment to better control the phase of the lattice, to be able to add disorder to the system and to increase the interactions between the particles. They will then reach interesting topological phases of matter such as the many-body localized Floquet phase, where the system is shaken without heating up in the bulk while the conduction of atoms in topologically protected edge states is kept.

Congratulations Raphaël!
