Robust Bilayer Charge Pumping for Spin- and Density-Resolved Quantum Gas Microscopy

July 14, 2020

Methods to control and readout multilayer systems are scarce and unreliable, but highly desirable to access quantum simulation of layered materials or to improve detection and manipulation of two-dimensional systems. We implemented a highly-stable bichromatic superlattice in the vertical direction to realize tunable bilayer systems. To circumvent the high background fluorescence of adjacent layers during single-particle resolved readout, we used robust charge pumping to separate two layers vertically by 21um. As a first application, we used the superlattice to gain full spin- and density-resolution of two-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard systems, which is highly sought after for quantum gas microscopy.
