Joannis recently received the Otto Hahn Medal for his groundbreaking contributions on probing ultracold fermionic quantum matter using quantum gas microscopy, especially the first real space observation of magnetic polarons.

In his own words: „Winning such a prestigious award is a special moment in life. Advancing science requires a steady attempt to push the boundaries of what is possible. I am glad our progress is considered a significant step forward in quantum technology.“

Since 1978, the Max Planck Society has awarded the Otto Hahn Medal to up to 30 young scientists each year for outstanding scientific achievements in connection with their dissertation. The award is usually presented during the annual meeting of the Max Planck Society the following year.

We congratulate you Joannis!
