Abstract:

In this talk, I will introduce two pieces of research on a single 171Y b+ ion: non-Hermitian quantum simulations based on a hyperfine qubit and two-qubit logic gates based on the nuclear-electron two-qubit system. In non-Hermitian quantum simulation research, we construct an effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian in 2S1/2 energy level by the electric-dipole interaction and spontaneous emission at the energy level of 2S1/2 −2 P1/2. Exceptional Point (EP) is the core of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We study the dynamical encircling of an EP, which brings us novel phenomenon-chiral and non-reciprocal state transfer in a quantum system compared to the Hermitian system. In single-ion two-qubit gates research, we realize the two-qubit gates in a single ion through microwave operations within the 2S1/2 energy level. 171Y b+ ion has a natural two-qubit coupling system-I = 1/2 nuclear spin and S = 1/2 electron spin. Natural hyperfine interaction allows us to use simple microwave operations to realize the interaction of these two qubits. Experimentally, according to the existing microwave operations, the pulse sequence for constructing an arbitrary two-qubit gate in this system is obtained through the Gradient Ascent Pulse Engineering (GRAPE) algorithm.
