Group Seminar via video conference (Zoom)
Tuesday, September 14th, 9:00 am (MEZ)

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are now holding our group seminars and journal clubs via video conference. This procedure enables us to continue our research, enhance discussions and exchange important information.

Abstract:

In this talk, I will present a setup utilized for synthesizing polarization states of light from orthogonally polarized sub-beams. The goal of implementing this setup to the main experiment studying ultracold atoms in a honeycomb lattice is two-fold: firstly the relative phases of the three lattice beams forming the optical potential shall be stabilized and secondly a dynamic control of the polarization could enable the study of new topological regimes as well as the realization of new imaging techniques. The project is naturally divided into two parts concerning the electronic and the optical components. In the former, I will investigate the phase-lock in a simplified optical setup involving only one polarization, designed such that within a bandwidth of close to 200 kHz the phase-noise is efficiently cancelled. In the latter part then, the main challenge is to keep the crosstalk of the two modes at an acceptable level. Here I show that this crosstalk can in a very stable fashion be reduced to such a degree that the power ratio of unwanted to wanted polarization is below -40 dB.
