Group meeting via video conference (Zoom)
Tuesday February 9th 2021, 9:00 (MEZ)

Dealing with the unique situation of partial lock downs worldwide and home office solutions at our Institute due to the current spreading of the Covid 19 virus, we are now holding our group seminars and journal clubs via video conference.
This procedure enables us to continue our research, enhance discussions and exchange important information.

Abstract:

Ordered arrays of trapped atoms form a natural, quantum-coherent interface between light and matter, opening numerous possibilities. Their strong and directional light-matter coupling arises from the interplay between cooperative dipolar response and spatial order, and, for 2D arrays, can be characterized by their linear reflectivity. I will present two ongoing (preliminary) projects, which emphasize the role of linear reflectivity as a figure of merit for quantum applications in a free-space mesoscopic array: (i) dissipative generation of spin squeezing using squeezed light, and, (ii) waveguide-QED-type few-photon nonlinear optics in free space.
