Abstract:
The Kagome lattice exhibits a large degree of geometric frustration. For single particles this gives rise to a flat band, where interactions dominate over kinetic energy. We explore the exotic bosonic phases in this band by populating it with a negative temperature state. Our Kagome super lattice is realised by overlapping a triangular and hexagonal lattice, which requires active phase stabilisation. I will report on the development of a digital phase stabilisation scheme implemented on FPGAs. The new scheme outperforms our previous analog scheme, and has allowed us to create stable negative temperature states in the flat band. Additionally, I demonstrate a proof-of-concept of locking to an arbitrary phase using quadrature detection, which paves the way to stabilised lattice acceleration and Floquet engineering.
