Group Seminar at MPQ and via Zoom: Pyramid MOT: A Compact High Flux Cold Atom Source
Lex Joosten, University of Oxford
Group Seminar in MPQ lecture hall & via video conference (Zoom)
Tuesday, May 17, 10:15 am (MEZ)
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the group seminar will be a hybrid event, allowing participants to attend the seminar virtually and in-person. This procedure enables us to continue our research, enhance discussions and exchange important information.
Abstract:
The discovery of Magneto Optical Trapping has had a profound impact on experimental physics, and is one of the key discoveries driving the current second quantum revolution. In this talk I will discuss the implementation of a Pyramid MOT as a cold atom loading device for a cavity QED/Quantum computing experiment, and the building of an efficient and accurate model for the characterization of MOTs in bespoke geometries. Finally, I will discuss the results of the model and next steps for the experiment.
