Seminar MPQ: Non-equilibrium dissipative dynamics and heating of cold atoms in optical lattices
Friday, 23.09.2011 10 a.m. (s.t.) in Herbert-Walther-lecture room, MPQ Garching
Prof. Andrew Daley, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Pittsburgh
I will discuss our recent and ongoing work on dissipative many-body dynamics with cold atoms in optical lattices. This will include the heating of interesting many-body states due to spontaneous emission and classical noise on the lattice potential (amplitude and position fluctuations), especially considering the relative sensitivity of different many-body states to different types of heating mechanism, and how heating rates are related to experimentally controllable parameters. I will also touch on the interplay between heating mechanisms and thermalisation in these systems.
