Experimental determination of the finite temperature phase diagram of the Bose-Hubbard model

Measured momentum distributions (front row) of bosonic clouds at different temperatures released from an optical lattice and the direct comparison to quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations (back row) with matching parameters. Each run of the experiments was carrierd out with about 300.000 atoms and the simulations were performed on a lattice of up to 200³ lattice sites. The experiments were performed at the University of Mainz before our group moved to Munich and the QMC simulations were carried out on the Brutus cluster in Zürich.
